The story of how we got started with Aceworx

Aceworx is a culmination of myriads of experiences and ambitions. Our story starts 4 years ago. Let's get started.

The beginning
The first encounter of Aceworx founders with a ‘Missing Middle’ was in the case of sustainable produce (non-pesticide produce) grown by smallholder beneficiaries of a network of eight (8) NGOs supported by Ford Foundation.

“In the process, we validated the potential for addressing the ‘Missing Middle’ in the agri-food ecosystem in India for pesticide-free produce. Later this social enterprise emerged to become the ‘pioneering leader’ in India for pesticide-free food.”

The second validation
As part of their engagement with a bilateral cooperation agency operating in India, the founders of Aceworx had their next opportunity to deal with a ‘Missing Middle’.

This time, the founders focused on leveraging the demand for safe agri-food by making ‘residue free’ as the differentiating aspect for all the horticultural output sourced from the participating smallholders.

This led to formation of India’s first market-facing multi-stakeholder agro-enterprise registered under the Companies Act with two FPOs (Farmer Producer Organisations) as its promoters.

Aceworx is born
Aceworx was founded in response to the ‘Missing Middle’ faced by cashew FPOs formed under a value chain development project funded by a leading Multilateral Agency.

Despite its clear buying commitment, the multinational company was unable to source from the cashew FPOs as the local middlemen undermined its efforts by virtue of their ground presence and existing relationships with the member-growers of these FPOs

“After generating suitable demand from conscientious buyers seeking traceable, sustainable cashew produce, Aceworx was able to successfully procure the required raw cashew produce from the same cashew FPOs. Aceworx also mobilized requisite support and resources from appropriate locally-embedded stakeholders which were working to serve the interests of tribal smallholders in the project area.”
